Job Description 

The IT specialist for Vermejo Park Ranch is responsible to respond to and resolve all issues relating to computers and the software running on them, wired and wireless networks, and all technical electronics relating to Vermejo Park Ranch and Ted Turner Expeditions.

The ideal candidate will have strong information technology skills and possess the following traits: a neat and clean personal appearance, strong communication skills, time management and prioritizing abilities, a willingness to be a team player, coachability, and the capacity to reach out to other IT team members for assistance. 


  • Installing hardware and software systems throughout the ranch property
  • Assess, repair, and maintain computers and most electronic hardware
  • Troubleshooting a variety of computer, electronic, and network issues
  • Strong ability to assist with issues related to the cloud
  • Setting up computer security measures to help protect end users
  • Configuring and installing computer networks at various locations
  • Offering on-site technical support for employees and guests
  • Learn Maestro and Silverware programs and effectively train staff on using them
  • Assist with inventory management in retail store and restaurant
  • Support Bison Department with Bison Pro issues and training
  • Perform other duties as assigned – Assist with guest services component at a variable level depending on IT workload

Education and/or Experience: An IT degree is not required for this position, however, it is strongly encouraged.  A minimum of 3 years hands-on technical IT experience is required.  Must have demonstrated experience resolving issues related to computer hardware and software, wireless networks, and cloud-based applications. 

 Language Skills: This position requires effective communication skills, both verbal and written.  Ability to read and follow directions with accuracy and consistency.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. 

Reasoning Ability: Must be able to pay close attention to detail, solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Successful applicant must possess a valid New Mexico class C Driver's License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment.  Driving record must meet the eligibility requirements of the TEI liability insurance carrier.  Employee will be required to sign a confidentiality statement and undergo a background check.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee may be required to work long hours, exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and extreme heat. The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

Location: Position requires applicant to live on Ranch property approximately 40 miles from the closest town.  Vermejo Park Ranch’s Headquarters are located 40 miles west of Raton, NM; a 4.5 hour drive south of Denver or 4.5 hour drive north of Albuquerque.

Additional Qualifications                                               

  • Must adhere to Company and Ranch policies and procedures, which are further defined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Must have neat and clean personal appearance.
  • Must present documentation establishing both identity and employment authorization within three days of hire, pursuant to federal law.
  • Employee will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement.
  • Employee will be required to submit to and pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Employee will be required to work some weekends and be on a 24-hour “On Call” rotating schedule.
  • Company housing, internet, work phone, laptop, and 3 daily meals will be provided as part of the compensation package. Company provided housing will be similar to dorm room living.
  • The Company operates as a drug-free/tobacco-free workplace. Tobacco use is not allowed on the ranch property, to include but is not limited to, ranch housing, ranch vehicles, ranch offices or on ranch equipment.
